Tension over murder of MC Oluomo’s aide..CONT
He alleged that one IK, who was an aide of the slain leader, led the squad that killed Mamok as a reprisal for his boss’ death.
He said, “MC Oluomo and Esi-Oluwo were rivals for the leadership of the NURTW in Oshodi. Both men also supported the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party, respectively, prior to the general elections.
“But Tinubu (a former Lagos governor) mediated in the fight. Some days after, Esi-Oluwo was killed and Mamok was fingered as the culprit.
“IK was born and raised in Mamok’s family house on Mosaku Street. He worked with Esi-Oluwo. After the man was killed, IK took over from him and became the strong man of the group.
“I saw him patrolling the street throughout yesterday and I was wondering what he was looking for. I never knew he was actually monitoring Mamok’s movements.”
The suspect was said to have fled the area after the incident.
PUNCH Metro was told that friends of the victim had started threatening reprisals and arsons, but the intervention of Oluomo had kept the situation under control.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Joe Offor, promised to get back to our correspondent but had yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
Tension over murder of MC Oluomo’s aide
Tension engulfed Oshodi, Lagos State, on Thursday, after Olayinka Mamowora, aka Mamok, a close aide of the Oshodi chapter chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, was killed.
Mamok was also said to be a former bodyguard of a former Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Our correspondent, who visited the community, observed as some men gathered around the NURTW secretariat on Oshodi Road, drinking alcoholic beverages.
Residents said the men were angry at the death of Mamok and could unleash mayhem if the situation was not well managed.
It was gathered that 43-year-old Mamok had just returned from the United Kingdom where his family resided.
He was said to have gone to Mosaku Street to cut his hair on Wednesday when three gunmen, dressed in black, entered the salon and shot him.
His relatives and some residents, who spoke with PUNCH Metro, said he was killed after a bullet hit him in the head.
A witness, who asked not to be named, said the incident happened around 8pm.
He said, “Mamok had just returned from the United Kingdom where his wife and children live. He was initially at the NURTW secretariat with MC Oluomo. Later, he called a family friend on Mosaku Street that he was coming to cut his hair in his salon.
“He went there with another friend, who did not enter the salon. He was cutting the hair when three guys, who wore black shirts, came into the salon and opened fire on him.
“He struggled with them for some time, but they overpowered him. They rained bullets on him. One of them shot him in the head and he slumped.”
A resident, John, said the victim was dragged out by his assailants, who dumped his corpse on his car, which was parked a few metres away.
He said the killers left with only Mamok’s gold chain, but did not steal the money on him.
“It was possible that the pistol was equipped with a silencing device because nobody heard any gunshot and knew there was a struggle between him and those people.
“After they shot him dead, they dragged him out and put his corpse on his car. They didn’t touch the money on him; they only took away the gold chain he had on. It was while they were leaving that they started shooting into the air and people started running helter-skelter,” he added.
A female friend of the victim, who did not identify herself, said the barber, Bayo, instead of raising the alarm, fled the scene.
“I don’t see any reason why he would run away when he did not have a hand in the murder. He mopped the blood in his salon, shut the door and ran away,” she said.
It was learnt that Mamok’s friend, who saw the assailants struggled with him, alerted Oluomo to the development.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Oluomo informed policemen from the Akinpelu division and they all arrived together at the scene of the incident.
“Oluomo and the police came into the street later after the killers had gone. The police broke the salon door and took the mop that Bayo used to clean the blood. They picked spent bullets from the salon,” he said.
Our correspondent was told that three police vans were parked on the street that night to forestall the breakdown of law and order.
A relative, who did not give her name, said the deceased’s corpse had been deposited in a morgue, while his blood-stained car was taken to the station.
“The police took the corpse to the morgue and took the car to the station. Some family members have started arriving from the family’s hometown in Ijebu,” she added.
Our correspondent observed an Armoured Personnel Carrier on the street on Thursday, while many shops were locked.
The house where the barbing salon was located, was also locked.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Mamok was killed by a gang loyal to a slain factional leader of the NURTW, Olayemi Eniola, aka Esi-Oluwo.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Mamok was killed because he was suspected to have fired the shot that killed Esi-Oluwo.
My new song, ‘Somebody Great’, a prophesy – Korede Bello
God Win crooner, Korede Bello, has said his new song, ‘Somebody Great’, is a prophesy to inspire people to greatness.
Bello told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Friday that he wrote the song to make people visualise success in their minds and then work hard to achieve it.
The new song currently enjoys massive airplay on radio just like the first single, entitled ‘God Win’.
The musician said, “(It’s) about the people, how we were born into this world and we don’t know how the journey will go and how one’s love will take us from nobody to somebody.
”How I, one day, hope that my voice would unite people and stop bombing and fighting and tribulations.
“That my voice will command authority; it’s not just me, it’s about alleviating people from oppression and mental poverty.
“You can be somebody great, from nobody to somebody; you can be anything you want to be: have love for God, love for people, one love.
“But also one of the reasons why I wrote that song is for people to see themselves as great; because before you can be somebody great, you need to first see it in your mind and you need to prophesy it to yourself, you need to say it to yourself.
“And I guess, those are one of the privileges of being a musician because you can put things out there in a melodic form that can change people’s lives forever.
“The song is more like a prophesy to everybody that listens to it to be able to command authority; command respect and most of all, have mental wealth.”
Vin Diesel Wants To Honor Paul Walker’s Wishes With This ‘Furious 8′ Decision
Vin Diesel is opening up about the next installment of the “Fast & Furious” franchise — and longtime fans are going to be very excited about what Vin has to say.
In response to recent reports that expressed Universal’s concern that the actor might nominate himself to fill the anticipated film’s directorial void, Diesel set the record straight. He has a different vision for the direction of the franchise — one that he believes only director Rob Cohen, who directed the original “Fast and the Furious,” can bring to life.
“There has always been the desire by Paul [Walker] to have Rob [Cohen] direct one more, this is what fueled my campaign,” Diesel wrote in a Facebook post. “I believe that he can and would reset the franchise nicely, returning to what was the core of the film in the beginning… racing.”
In recent installments of the franchise, Dom and his crew have taken on bigger, badder adventures. Starting with the 2011 caper “Fast Five,” which introduced Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to the franchise, the “Fast & Furious” films have increasingly defied logic and expectations, turning the series into a full-blow action franchise. It sounds like Diesel might want to bring “Furious 8″ back to the franchise’s street racing roots.
Not to mention, given Walker’s untimely passing two years ago, Diesel feels that Cohen “would also handle the Brian O’connor [sic] issue with integrity, given that he and David Ayer were the ones who initially created that beloved character in the first place.”
With just a little more than 16 months to go until the release of the eighth “Fast & Furious” movie, Diesel says they’re still working on the script, which he hopes to have firmed up before he starts his “Last Witch Hunter” press tour later this month.
For Diesel, his main priority is honoring Walker’s legacy. Shortly after the release of “Furious 7,” which broke records and hearts around the world, Diesel told MTV News, “Paul used to say that [’Fast & Furious’] 8 was guaranteed and, in some ways, when your brother guarantees something, you have to make sure it comes to pass… ’Furious 7′ was for Paul; 8 is from Paul.”
The “Fast and Furious” franchise may be know for its fancy cars and death-defying stunts, but we think it’s time to bring the franchise back home to its street-racing familia. And if Cohen isn’t down to return to the streets, Diesel might just sit in that director’s chair himself — that is, if his mom has anything to say about it.
“I will share something crazy that my mother said six months ago after the studio had me announce the date for 8 to the world,” he wrote on Facebook. “’Either you direct 8 yourself… or don’t do it.'”
Man successfully buys ‘Google.com’ for one minute, becomes Internet hero
Could you imagine owning the domain of the most popular website on the planet – even just for a minute?
This week, Babson University student Sanmay Ved became the luckiest guy in the Internet after he was able to successfully purchase Google.com for just $1
In a blog post on his LinkedIn page, Ved explained that he was playing with Google Domains – the tech giant’s domain registration service – when he discovered Google.com was listed as available for purchase.
“I clicked the add to cart icon beside the domain (which should not appear if the domain is not available for sale). The domain actually got added to my cart as seen by the green check-box, and the domain appeared in my cart,” Ved wrote.
“I was hoping I would get an error at some time saying transaction did not go through, but I was able to complete purchase, and my credit card was actually charged!”
To his surprise, Google.com began showing up in notifications in his Google Webmaster Tools, proving that he did in fact own one of the most iconic web domains in the world.
But, sadly, it didn’t last very long. Within a minute he received an email from Google Domains stating that his purchase had been cancelled.
Ved added that the error allowing him to purchase the domain has been fixed. He also alerted Google security to the incident.
According to Mashable, large websites like Google usually automatically renew their domains to prevent these things from happening, which may point towards a bug in Google Domains being at fault for the incident.
Google isn’t the first big tech firm to have domain issues.
In 2003, Microsoft forgot to renew its Hotmail.co.uk domain allowing one lucky web user to purchase it. It took a few days for the company to get the domain back.
